for BIM Advancements
EXTON, Pa., U.S.A. – Bentley Systems, Incorporated, a leading global provider of comprehensive software solutions for advancing infrastructure, today announced its call for submissions to the 2017 Be Inspired Awards program. The awards, which are judged by independent juries of industry experts, recognize infrastructure projects for BIM advancements that improve project delivery and/or asset performance. The deadline for submission entries is May 1, 2017.
The Be Inspired Awards are an integral part of Bentley’s Year in Infrastructure 2017 Conference, which takes place Oct. 10-12 in Singapore at Sands Expo and Convention Centre at Marina Bay Sands, one of the most iconic buildings in Asia. The structural design of Marina Bay Sands was done by Arup and was the 2010 Be Inspired Award winner for Innovation in Structural Engineering.
All Bentley users are invited to enter their projects in the Be Inspired Awards program, no matter what phase the project is in – preconstruction/conceptual, design, construction, or in operations. The three finalists chosen for each Be Inspired Awards category will win a trip to Singapore to attend the conference, as a guest of Bentley Systems. The finalists will present their projects in the Be Inspired Awards finals portion of the conference before the judges, industry thought leaders, and more than 100 members of the media.
The 17 Be Inspired Awards categories recognize BIM advancements in the following categories, several of which are new this year:
The conference will also feature several new Industry Forums, which include:
Richard Ruth, product manager, services, Danfoss, said, “Our company was honored to be recognized at the 2016 Be Inspired Awards for our innovations in asset performance and energy management. Both the conference and the awards were outstanding opportunities to learn from extraordinary projects and technology innovations from around the world, and the networking opportunities throughout the conference were excellent. We also thought it very valuable to have our project evaluated and benchmarked against peers and competitors in the industry. We hope to submit several nominations for the 2017 Be Inspired Awards and attend the conference in Singapore!”
Paul Baron, principal/Pacific business group manager, GHD, said, “I felt like a winner before I even came up to the stage -- simply being at the event and surrounded by so many outstanding project nominees was inspiring! We are extremely proud that our project in Advancing Construction Management was among the nominees honored at the 2016 Be Inspired Awards. We also appreciated the interest from the global media in our company and in our innovative use of technology. To have our project recognized on a global stage in front of our peers, industry leaders, and members of the media was humbling. We look forward to submitting again this year.”
Every Be Inspired Awards nomination receives significant and valuable recognition across the global infrastructure community. Through the Be Inspired Awards program, participants:

Read the articleSan Diego, U.S.A. – DistribuTECH 2017 – Building on the strategic alliance between Siemens and Bentley Systems that was made public in November 2016, Siemens’ Energy Management Division and Bentley Systems have announced an agreement to jointly develop solutions to accelerate digitalization of planning, design, and operations for power utilities and industrial power customers. Bentley Systems is a global leader in software solutions for advancing the design, construction, and operations of infrastructure. The first of the new offerings will integrate Bentley Systems’ utility design and geographic information systems (GIS) capabilities with Siemens’ Power System Simulation (PSS) Suite, with specific solutions for power transmission, power distribution, and industrial facilities. Combining these two platforms provides customers with Bentley’s expertise in 3D infrastructure asset modeling and GIS with Siemens’ knowledge and renowned experience in energy system planning and simulation.
“The energy industry trend toward decentralization represents a significant challenge as well as a great opportunity for power producers and consumers alike, and our strategic alliance with Bentley Systems will help our customers better leverage this changing landscape through the combination of our powerful solutions,” said Ralf Christian, CEO of the Siemens Energy Management Division. “Siemens and Bentley share a commitment to openness, interoperability, and the common goal of helping our customers drive the digital enterprise across their supply chains.”
Bentley Systems Chief Product Officer Bhupinder Singh said, “We are excited to collaborate with Siemens to help our power utilities users advance in ‘going digital.’ Siemens’ expertise in electrical power systems planning and simulation are the perfect complement to our GIS and infrastructure engineering solutions, and we will work together to bring new innovations and tangible business benefits to our users around the world.”
Distributed energy resources (DER), like microgrids and their off-grid on-grid mode, require more advanced planning approaches to ensure system reliability and stability. Bentley’s OpenUtilities solution for utility power grid design and GIS will be integrated with Siemens’ PSS Suite for power system planning to provide seamless workflows and data integration, while supporting optimal network design for both operational and economic performance. Through a connected data environment, utility engineers will now have the added benefit of sharing critical design information to reduce design time and construction costs to deliver optimal and comprehensive utility network updates.
In addition, the Siemens Bentley initiative will provide intelligent Siemens components for easy placement into Bentley’s Substation application for 3D modeling, while intelligent electrical symbols will provide necessary details for comprehensive reports in a substation’s 2D schematic layout capabilities. Bentley users will have access to a comprehensive Siemens’ components catalog through Bentley’s cloud services.
This press release is available at www.siemens.com/press/PR2017010xxxEMEN.
Attendees of the DistribuTECH 2017 Conference are invited to visit Siemens in booth 3113 and Bentley Systems in booth 1431.

EXTON, Pa., U.S.A. – Analytical Graphics Inc. (AGI) and Bentley Systems are pleased to announce Bentley Systems as a co-founder of the new Cesium Consortium. Cesium is an open source, browser-based virtual globe, first developed by AGI in 2011 for the aerospace and defense communities. Cesium’s unparalleled performance in streaming very large datasets through a browser to desktops, tablets, and smart phones has enabled it to become the virtual globe of choice for geospatial viewing. The consortium will now enable AGI and Bentley to collaborate on the Cesium roadmap to better accelerate and support the requirements for building infrastructure modeling (BIM) and for owners of infrastructure assets. In addition, the consortium will support feature development, priority bug fixes, expansion of outreach efforts, and the hosting of social coding events such as code sprints and bug bashes.
Bentley Systems is adopting Cesium to visualize and interact with highly detailed infrastructure engineering models set in the reality context of their surrounding environment. The digital engineering models are created with Bentley’s MicroStation and BIM applications, and the context is provided through reality meshes, created from digital photography and scanning devices using Bentley’s ContextCapture.
Keith Bentley, founder and CTO of Bentley Systems, said, “We are thrilled to join the Cesium Consortium as a founding member. I commend AGI for their leadership and vision, not only for creating an open source solution for highly performant 3D web-based applications but, more importantly, for fostering an ecosystem to leverage it. I expect Bentley and our users will build Cesium-based Web clients for immersively viewing BIM models, reality context, asset databases, IoT streams, and myriad other ‘Geo3D’ services. We look forward to working hand in hand with AGI and future members of the consortium to expand Cesium as an open standard.”
Bentley’s work to date illustrates the advantages that the infrastructure community can expect from Cesium. Data created with both MicroStation and ContextCapture can be exported to 3D Tiles, an open format developed by the Cesium team to stream massive geo-coordinated 3D datasets. Cesium will enable Bentley users to stream their digital engineering models over the Web to desktop and mobile devices with unprecedented performance and precision.
“We are very excited to collaborate with Bentley. Bentley shares our vision and technical approach and has already done some fantastic work with Cesium and 3D Tiles,” said Patrick Cozzi, Cesium founder. “Bentley’s support will be key within our submission team proposing 3D Tiles as an Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Community Standard.”
